Matrix seems like the one with most potential to develop into a 1:1 Discord alternative.
Then you have XMPP, Mattermost, RocketChat, whatever Revolt.chat renamed itself into, etc.

Programmer Humor@lemmy.ml•How to browse websites in 2025: 13 simple steps
18·1 year agothere was this satirical “web browsing simulator 2025” or something like that where you had to do all those things.
but I don’t remember the exact name and can’t find it with a search engine. Maybe someone else knows what I am talking about.

61·2 years agoIt’s a farside.link/invidious link. which, instead of sending you directly to Youtube, chooses one of Invidious (privacy frontend for YT) instances to show yoi the video. you probably got redirected to an instance that had issues at that time. Opening the link again should send you to a different instance.
whole privacy frontend movement deserves more attention, so that solutions for issues like this get developed

Technology@beehaw.org•Why Everyone Should Still Use an RSS Reader in 2024
10·2 years agoProblem is that the whole concept of advertising is “telling other people what to do”.
- People use Google.
- Google tells people to use Chrome
- Chrome becomes most popular browser
- Chrome removes the " this site has RSS" icon from URL bar
- People forget that RSS is a thing
- People now rely on Google News and other biased sites to get information
- biased sites tell people what to do
RSS is freedom
go tell other people to use it
