  • My cat wanders around hissing at anything that moves and threatens the family all day. She’s a devil, except for when she isn’t. That’s at the same time every day, first thing in the morning. She gets on my lap and gives me love and won’t leave me alone or stop following me. Around 10:00 though, every morning, she’s right back to contemplating the murder of every other living thing in the house.

  • A very good friend of mine had one of these when I was a kid. We called it laserdisc. I couldn’t tell you how that started.

So, when I got to high school and they were using actual laserdiscs I said, “Where’s the cool outer shell? Is this just like, a school laserdisc setup?” Some kids argued with me that I didn’t know what I was talking about.

I clearly remembered watching Star Wars on them and being mesmerized by that case.

Years later I got to thinking about it and googled “laserdisc with hard casing, mechanism removes disc when played”. Nothing. I chalked it up to it being some kind of false memory. Maybe I was just remembering the sleeve and my buddy was putting the movies in the player in a way that made me think it worked like that.

It wasn’t until years later that I seen a techmoan video in my feed and I was like, “THAT!! That’s what I’ve been talking about all these years!! It’s fucking vinyl! NO WAY!”

I was always tech obsessed so it nearly drove me crazy anytime I thought about it. He’d been dead for years so I couldn’t ask him. His dad and sister had no idea what I was talking about. “He traded a lot stuff around so there’s no telling what he had. There was mismatched technology all over this place.”

  • I can’t believe it’s been a year. Damn. I really didn’t think I’d make it. I half worried I’d go crawling back.

My last two comments, one year ago were, “Memmy for Lemmy. Been happy all day.” (though voyager is my app these days) and, “Thank you. I already love it. I hope this is where all of the old heads go.”

That was a response to my introduction to lemmy.world.

I meant it when I said I was leaving. I wasn’t 100% sure I could make it after using Reddit for so long, but here I am.

  • I had a 1998 firebird when I was 19 (thank you mom). There’s a dude in the neighborhood I live in now, 20 years later, who has that car.

I stopped him one day and said, “hey, I lost a car like this in a flood ages ago and traded it for an ugly little Escort. You think this is it?” “Haha, I doubt it bro, but it was a flood car my dad bought like 15 years ago so, maybe? He got it pretty far away from here though.” I said, “Bro, I have the VIN in an old file. For fun, let’s check it.”

Sure enough, it was my old car. Funny thing is, his dad bought it in Missouri and I had it in WV. Now it’s in Va in the same neighborhood as me.

    What are the odds?
