  • I think a lot of Mel Brooks and Zucker comedies (Naked Gun et. al.) have aged pretty well with their absurd and physical comedy although they can definitely fall flat sometimes.

Christmas Vacation also comes to mind. I think everyone can still relate to the holiday family dynamic.

Even older can still be good - thinking like His Girl Friday style screwball comedies, or Desk Set, Some Like it Hot etc. They still work as comedy, you’ll laugh, but they may also require a bit more cultural context to really enjoy, or interest in the period/fashion.

  • I’m not watching an ad or a Twitter post to get a read on this but does anyone actually want this? I watched the first one many times because I was 12 and then grew out of it by the sequel. A lot of this late 90s/early 00s comedy seems cringe at best and problematic at worst and now needs to compete with infinite sophomoric YouTube videos.

Not to mention, the Bond franchise got way serious in response to Austin Powers, and the 60s spy he was parodying doesn’t seem nearly as culturally relevant to the kids this would need to appeal to to be successful.

… Or is this pure cash grab?

  • Hitman wasn’t really a sandbox until Freelancer mode was added. The story mode has always been pretty linear. Same level order, same objectives every time. I’m not expecting my choices to matter to the narrative, but I am expecting to be able to choose between quiet and loud, lethal and non-lethal etc. to finish the given mission which should be a pretty low bar.

  • On a related note, not having to know literally everything a public person has done before feeling safe to express even the most basic support for their work.

I appreciate the accountability, I don’t want to support bad people, but back in the day it was like “I enjoyed that album” and then you went back to living your life. Lack of information made separating the art from the artist the default and it made enjoying new stuff take so much less effort.
