Fediverse@lemmy.world•TIL about this Fediverse software databaseEnglish
2·3 months agoI hear about Python probably at least as much as I hear about Rust, to be fair. I looked at some Python code years ago and seem to remember the code looking more like a shell script than like other programming languages I had seen, so the ease and readability aspects make sense. If ever I do start programming, I won’t start by learning Rust. Baby steps.

3·3 months agoIs Rust really so obscure? I’m not a programmer, but I seem to hear about Rust frequently in any remotely halfway-techy space.

Those are all Lemmy and PieFed, and I’m not so familiar with Mastodon and others. Maybe look at mas.to ?

1·5 months agoLibrewolf is also an option, which is basically just FF with arkenfox preinstalled.
I don’t think that it’s just that. Librewolf probably makes many of the same changes, but from what I understand, it is a completely separate project, so not all of the arkenfox changes are included in Librewolf and vice versa.
I think that violence can be adequately defined as “the instigation of aggression/harm against peaceful beings.” Hierarchy is not strictly required for this.

1·7 months agoIs a fruitarian someone who only eats fruit?
Yes.
Do these people exist?
Yes, though not many of them as far as I know.
Do they have normal bathrooms?
Most probably poop outside or in a bucket, at least if their situation allows.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•IDEA to make this site standout why don't you make a live chatbox for people who have logged in?English
5·8 months agoslrpnk.net already has its own XMPP chat option where one’s Lemmy username (e.g. user@slrpnk.net) is one’s XMPP address, and I imagine that other instances could do something similar if they wanted. XMPP is federated, so it doesn’t require any Lemmy-side coding for the federation aspect. For instance-wide chat (visible to all users of the instance), an implementation in XMPP would probably be easier as well, perhaps using some form of the group chat functionality. What does your proposal offer that cannot be done using XMPP?

2·8 months agoI don’t grow blueberries, but I’ve seen videos of high-bush cultivars in the UK, and they certainly looked prolific and easy to manage. From what I’ve heard/read, I imagine that they would do well in poor, acidic, sandy soil like in pine forests. Is that the kind of soil that you have?

2·8 months agoYou are not the first to answer blackberries, and I just wonder, do blackberries not grow out of control in other places? Sure they’re easy to keep alive once established, but to actually keep them manageable, is there not a lot of pruning required?
(Asian pears are awesome, by the way. The fruit, anyway. Tried it once, and it puts the common pears to shame.)

1·8 months agoContinuous harvest is the best! We can’t just stop eating when the plants stop fruiting, so having successive fruiting seasons in a year is really helpful. If durian fruited year-round… monoculture would be tempting.
Do you trellis the blackberries or just let them sprawl everywhere?
