I thought I liked it and that it had enough users, thank you for setting me straight.

a viable alternative
It’s already a viable alternative. I can tell because I’m only here and not there anymore and lack nothing
we need to convince more Redditors to switch over by mentioning Lemmy in the right threads
This is just the worst idea. First off, it would require me to have a reddit account, which I nuked. Second, it’d require me to go to reddit and there’s no more ingress points that won’t rape my eyes. And finally, I’m not using my time and energy proselytizing just to accelerate another tragedy of the commons.
Performance of OSMand is actually great on mid-level SOCs I usually get. Anything with snapdragon 6xx or more and performance is a non-issue for me, especially since it has a new opengl2 renderer. Also, it uses very, very little battery navigating me with voice (so screen off) along a pre-defined GPX on locally downloaded maps in airplane mode. And the simplicity of the interface is a downside once you spend a few hours tinkering with OSMand and get used to all it can do.
OSMand is a much more powerful tool even with no plugins and it’s a mature app you can count on.
No. We tried having it centralized and it sucks.
I don’t even see ads.
That’s why I save everything into my “Note to self” encrypted Signal blob. It’s searchable and you can improvise tags by just writing words
Mod elections should be annual and no mod should enjoy that status for life.
We are talking about an unpaid position. For me, the best thing about the downfall of reddit is it made blindingly clear that the content is ephemeral, shitposting is not all that important and that online forums are communities in name only.
Having kids helps, it’s their problem now.
Yeah, people don’t give a shit. By boycotting everything I’ve gotten people to install Signal (luckily phones have enough storage now that this is not hard) and that’s good enough for me, we can have group chats.
No magic for me, I told them immediately as they could understand. That shit is a gateway to religion. I didn’t even care if they believed me or the liars, I was quietly ready to be found right in some years, but the keepers of the ol’ magic flame were not persuasive enough and my brood went around redpilling their peers.
This can seem a bit sad at a first glance. Where are we heading?
These metrics are only relevant if you’re fattening for an IPO.
Signal’s “Note to self” is an option.
My observation you’re responding to is neutral as regards providing support. I didn’t know that a) you need support, b) that you were looking here nor c) that a sentence with what amounts to a shower thought can so efficiently deprive you of some. I certainly support everyone’s decision to not have children while reserving the right to say they’re a great source of happiness and meaning in my life.
I found it’s something that enriches you and provides a strong sense of purpose and so from my viewpoint it’s nowhere near an accurate description.
Speaking as a psychologist, you really need to be squinting to think like this. Consider motivations for entering into such a contest and who they’re held by.
sacrifice years of their lives to raise those kids?
Sitcoms sold people a bleak view of parenthood.
There’s too many, but I won’t lie if I take any few lines from L. Cohen’s “The Future”:
"Your servant here, he has been told To say it clear, to say it cold It's over, it ain't going any further And now the wheels of heaven stop You feel the devil's riding crop Get ready for the future: It is murder"
