$1000 to someone with $100,000 is like $1,000,000 to someone with $100,000,000. To make your point you’d have to do it backwards: $1000 to someone with $100,000,000 is like $1 to someone with $100,000.

Heat transfer works both ways - so if they feel you as cold then you’d feel them as warm. In my experience dogs usually don’t stand out to me as being particularly warm so I’d guess their fur is a good enough insulator to prevent much heat transfer during normal casual contact. It’s been a few months though, maybe I’ve just forgotten how warm the embrace of a dog is.

At least in the US, I think the jury’s still out on how history will view X/Y/Z’s handling of the climate, because… the boomers are still handling it. Once the government starts to be mostly non-boomers, I think we’ll probably see an enormous shift in that sort of policy.

I mean, literally anyone who’s used a bidet before will know from daily experience that your comments are just wrong. It’s not difficult to dry off, in fact it’s pretty simple, and it uses much less toilet paper than the old way. The primary purpose of a bidet for most people also isn’t TP conservation - that’s just one of several nice side-effects.

I’m gonna duck out of any further replies here though because, frankly, you seem more interested in pushing this weird narrative you’ve settled on (in an old / dead thread, no less) than actually discussing it, and I can think of about a hundred things I’d rather be doing with my time. You do you, clean your butt whichever way makes the most sense to you.

Virtually all of us use both. Bidet will clean you and TP will dry you.

If you remove “Undetermined” as a language on your profile, then all the unlabeled foreign language content should stop showing up for you. The problem is that all the unlabeled English content would also stop showing up for you, then. That’s why having “Undetermined” be the default option is not good - it only makes the problem worse.

One that’s gotten me a few times is if you’re typing a reply to someone, either in the comments or a PM, then mid-typing you upvote (or downvote) them (or anyone else), it deletes your comment-in-progress. I’ve lost a few comments that way, one of which took about 20 minutes to write which I just gave up on and didn’t post afterward.

I also really don’t like that the default language option is “Undetermined”. It makes not labeling the correct language the default behavior, which makes a lot of foreign language material show up in my feed. Your own post and 2 of the 4 comments at the time of me posting are unlabeled.

I mean, this lemmy post would be exhibit #1 - but even without it it is not at all difficult to establish intent to deceive from just the actions OP is suggesting and nothing more. Sometimes intent is the easy part.

I had a vaguely similar idea a while ago and someone pointed out that this could incentivize spamming posts to as many communities as possible, even communities that are only questionably relevant or not relevant at all, to farm upvotes.

I wasn’t really raised into religion - my mom was a believer (Honestly not sure if she still is, I’ve picked up hints that may have changed), but she never once went to or brought me to church, we never talked about religion, etc. I think she got enough of that stuff when she was a kid.

I do like to go all-out on decorating for Christmas - just last year I spent a whole lot of time setting up and coding my own tree full of individually addressable RGB LEDs, in addition to all the other decorating on the interior of the place.

This absolutely doesn’t come from informed experience, and is speculative drivel, but:

I think just mentioning that you “designed your own major” may help a lot in various types of job search. Regardless of what the actual process is like (I have no idea), it sounds impressive, and makes it sound like you’re a person with a lot of initiative and drive. That could help make up for any perceived competitive disadvantage.

Of course your mileage may vary, especially if you’re applying for a job that would heavily revolve around topics covered by a very specific major. But sometimes it helps to stand out, and “I designed my own major” could help you do that.

Whenever they put that “Dear reader, if everyone reading this sent $X, etc” notice at the top of an article, I send whatever the amount they mention in the notice is.

I’ve only ever noticed it like 5 times since I started doing that a bunch of years ago - not sure if that means they don’t ask that often, or if it means I don’t visit them often enough to always see it.

I agree that my idea probably wouldn’t be great, for the reasons we both stated. While multicommunities are a good idea, I’m not sure they address the specific issue bothering me either, of crossposts spamming the All feed. OP’s idea might help with that a little - but honestly, I just think the ‘Hot’ algorithm needs some more fine tuning, and perhaps custom logic to avoid showing duplicates.

On a vaguely similar note, it might be cool if using the crosspost feature pooled upvotes from the various crossposts, and only let one of the crossposts show up in anyone’s All feed at a given time. It would make having multiple splintered communities for one topic less annoying, encourage cross-posting, and reduce spam when someone crossposts something to 5 communities and all 5 show up on your All page.

To really work I think it would have to pool comments together too - but then you run into issues with moderation. I’m not sure if there’s a good way to fix that issue.
