i want and try to be but i don’t succeed every day. i hate thinking about those times when i don’t succeed, but being mindful of those times is a big part of what i can do to succeed more often.

this is the correct response.
get it in writing that they accept the risk that comes with not upgrading so it can’t come back on you. all you can do is CYA and make recommendations - if management does not agree with your recommendations make sure you have it documented that you informed whoever is making the decision of the risk.
if you think your employer will somehow still try to hold you accountable for this, save the aforementioned correspondence using something your employer does not manage i.e. a personal device. you could also let other people than this specific individual know about this so it isn’t just your word vs his.
i wouldn’t trust a company who would enable this by default to allow users to TRULY completely disable it. much like how you can only opt out of the telemetry options they allow you to.
right up my alley, thank you!
trackmania has that in common with basically all speedrunning streams/content. super nice to have in the background since it can be repetitive and you can pay attention if they get a good run going :)
and there are people who speedrun probably every game you’ve ever enjoyed, so there is plenty of options!
factorio is one of the best automation games ever, and also has just about any quality of life feature you could think to add to a game.
i’m in my first ever modded playthrough with space exploration and i’m blown away by the increase in complexity. the vanilla game is great but the mods are definitely worth trying if you want an exponential jump in complexity.
really wish i wasn’t using discord, but i keep in contact with a good number of people on there and less than half of them would even consider switching services/software.
just beat a difficult game about climbing and i loved it! it’s the only other game in the genre that has risen to the heights of getting over it in terms of gameplay mechanics and level design.
if anyone reading this knows about a community for these types of games (foddian? getting over it-likes?), please send it my way. i love these games to bits and have so much to say about them but to my knowledge basically no one cares about these games outside of watching people on twitch get angry at them.
looking forward to playing return of the obra dinn, then i’ll probably start speedrunning the climbing game until baby steps releases lol
me too! i stuck with mine quite a bit longer, but it ended up in the box all the same. there are very few good vr games that don’t have that tech demo-y format lots of early titles had. and valve’s promises of linux support were quite exaggerated, which made playing the couple games i kept coming back to even less convenient or just a worse experience. i stopped playing half life alyx halfway through, and came back and i couldn’t get it to run on my linux pc anymore - like, thats the single game/hardware combo valve promised would 100% work on linux.
its kinda sad because i really believed in consumer vr back then, but seeing how the industry has stagnated has shown that either it isn’t possible or we aren’t ready for cheap, good, open vr. nobody is making good vr games because there are no users and there are no users because its too expensive to get a good vr rig and there are no games.
i’ve been feeling the same way the last couple weeks. i like lemmy but there’s nothing to see here if you don’t want to talk about politics or linux, and it exhibits many of the same things i dislike about other social media platforms as well.
its also making me realize that maybe i don’t want “reddit when it didn’t suck so bad” but rather what would really bring me the happiness i’m seeking in reddit replacements is likely something entirely unrelated to social media.

while funny, the accolades you listed aren’t enough for billy to be elected - clearly he isn’t that great a conman!
just picked up embroidery and knitting, been lots of fun making things for myself and i know what my friends are getting for next christmas lol
your point about them trying to federate as a defense against new regulations is one i hadn’t considered before. however, that doesn’t reduce the potential harm of federating with threads. facebook/meta have proven at practically every possible chance that they are not to be trusted with even the most inconsequential of things and should be avoided by anyone smart enough to recognize this.
it sounds to me like you are suggesting that federating with threads will prevent them from having that out of “see? we tried”, but i feel that cooperating with facebook/meta in any way is a compromise on my morals that i simply can’t justify.
i’d love to hear what potential benefits you (or anyone else who wants to contribute) believe federating with threads will bring to us other than a ton of users from a different ecosystem, as the discourse around this has been pretty all over the place recently and i think we need more measured opinions on this.
i have a backpacking bidet (culo clean specifically) and I would say it gives mixed results. basically, you need to practice and develop a technique to “get the most” out of it in terms of water usage, how clean you can get, etc. I don’t have a normal bidet so i have nothing to compare it with and maybe my technique isnt so good. mine gets me mostly clean but i still need a square of toilet paper to make sure in almost every case. better than not having it, but not the results I was hoping for.
came here to post almost exactly this. it’s pretty interesting and rare seeing someone questioning this sort of thing outside of a dedicated asexual community. i’m glad lemmy has people like you who are welcoming and well-informed!
why doesn’t Radiohead put out an entire album of songs like pulk/pull revolving doors? they had a really unique and cohesive idm sound going and kinda dropped it to the side
i’d say i choose the almost all games i play based off of one or more of these questions:
other than those, i pretty much only play co-op party games with friends and ~1 rpg every couple years. right now i’m playing fortune’s run, an imm sim i’ve been looking forward to since the last steam next fest - very fun so far.
i only pirate things that i do not “need” and i would not purchase no matter the price - typically movies and shows that are not on the streaming platforms i pay for.
if pirating that thing isn’t an option, i’ll just do without it. so in my eyes the creator is not losing any sales from me since i would not be paying for it in any scenario.
hey its me the guy you predicted would tell you the thing you said i would tell you
the reason people say neofetch is useless is because the information it gives you is not very detailed when compared to something like inxi for example
