Honestly I didn’t find this online but I’ve always done it this way. I’m happy to learn others think the same.

This gave me a really good chuckle.
If you’re in prison for life, and you want to kill yourself because of gender dysphoria, providing you the medical care to avoid that is the humane thing to do. Period.
If you are an immigrant detained for 6-12 months before deportation, the the odds of this applying to detained immigrants is near 0, but let’s say 1% it does, this would be tailored at ensuring they can have the drugs they require.
Keeping people from shooting out the back of their fucking heads or swallowing a bottle of painkillers to end it all is always the humane choice.
Don’t worry, we could fund it all by just not administering a few death penalties (those are more expensive than life imprisonment).
So you use SharePoint as well? Hahaha
I long for third spaces.
The mall is an ouroboros that demands I spend. But if it had a park combined with it, if it was just a series of semi-connected strip malls around a central or spread out park/walking path I’d be there constantly.
The mall just isn’t a enjoyable place to hang out unless you truly have no other choice, and even teenagers who don’t are opting to hang online because it’s less expensive and doesn’t require transit.
Disney needs to re-learn the concept of the Disney Vault, and use it.
I don’t want any more star wars this decade, thanks. Games, books, sure. But TV and film absolutely not.
Take a break, let the audience build nostalgia and long for it, and sweet Jesus have a fucking plan next time.
Nope, they’re doing a trilogy of Rey movies.
Yo if you are doing COBOL systems maintenance for 90k you arent charging enough.
That’s all this meme means. Consultants on COBOL maintenance can make 90k in a week. This is not the area where companies pinch pennies.
If there is ever a next successor to Blurays, for VR film or something, their DRM could be linked to a validation server. Once it’s always online what you describe becomes possible.
Currently Blurays and dvds are designed for offline playback, and are read only, so their licenses are always valid and perform no verification.
Legally, you own a disc, and a limited license to view the contents of the disc.
It’s effectively full ownership, but this same “limited license” model is how they fuck you over digitally, because without the disc, they can, at any time, revoke that limited license legally, because it was limited and they never granted full ownership. This is why the legality of pirating a movie you already own on Blu-ray is morally correct but legally wrong, because your license only grants you that one disc, in that one format.
I fucking hate it. The fact we dont have better property laws for media and IP is insane.
Blu-ray is yes.
A rip implies higher compression /changes.
A movie like Independence Day? Easy to do 7gb with good quality. Blurays is H264, We have x265 now. 4gb size? Those explosions gonna be chunky, but film is watchable.
Lack of good integrated support in Windows and Mac, as well as no native way to convert from webp means it is good when it is good, but infuriating when it is bad. If you just need something to work, you don’t want to fight with converting image formats, you just want to move on.
I supported the idea of webp, still do, but it’s 100% less widely supported on legacy software, and the OS does nothing to interpret for those software packages.
Tiktok.
You said product, and I mean this legitimately. Not because of meme hate or hating on what is trendy, but because it is and has been a tool of the CCP. This isn’t really in question, and it was one of the first large platforms to entirely erase the idea of a timeline and fully devote itself only to a algorithm feed. One that bytedance has put their finger on the scales of many times.
The effect this has is hard to quantify, but the postmortem on it is going to be incredible as we unpack exactly how much this influenced the trends and politics among zoomers, and to what extent.
The Windows command line is just so far removed from linux/mac terminal. Powershell is the closest Windows has out of the box really, and it’s a poweruser tool exclusively. Not to mention that by default, Powershell comes with aliases for common commandline inputs, so users are still not learning the correct commands and syntax.
This builds an ignorance problem, as you alluded to. I’ve done a lot in android and linux, but not enough where I can hammer away at a linux terminal and do anything but cause damage.
And I don’t think this is a “fault” in linux so to speak, but it’s an issue that needs to be overcome for most users to make the switch from something where the terminal was strictly and “optional” tool for them.
Only because I staunchly refuse to use their garbage app on android. As many have said, this was an entirely self-inflicted wound. I brows(ed) reddit maybe 70% on mobile before, so making the mobile experience absolutely unbearable and removing all NSFW content made it just not for me.
Same. Relay was the one for me. So far Connect for Lemmy has been the closest I’ve found. No button nto clear read yet, but the mark read on scroll and collapsing comments function is here. So it’s in good shape to start.
Yes.
They will often display prompts while driving that are on a timer “suggesting” route changes or alternates and auto selecting yes.
To abbreviate massively and not dox myself, this caused me serious financial harm as a road trip rerouted onto roads unsafe for my vehicle.
I loathe Google and many tech companies for their sheer and ardent refusal to have proper customer service, or any method of customer feedback. A/B testing will never tell you that the top navigation directions should focus on the major high numbers and road names, not what road segment you are on. I need to know what lane to be in for my next turn in 5 miles, not how many times I will fade merge between segements only to have you finally tell me the lane when I’m a quarter mile away.
Google Maps is fucking awful in so many ways that are inexcusable, and worst of all they were allowed to fucking buy more of their competitors. Right now Magic Earth is a distant also ran in this field, and due to Google’s massive proprietary features always will be without support.
And I haven’t even mentioned how my map results are plastered with promoted ads and locations. Which is just useless and infuriating when I am searching for a specific placename.
