There’s a good reason why people that choose to run agents with the ability to run commands at least try to sandbox it to limit the blast radius.

This guy let an LLM raw dog his CMD.EXE and now he’s sad that it made a mistake (as LLMs will do).

Easy, when foreign workers take the money, it leaves the USA. When it’s an American AI company getting that money instead of an American worker, the money stays in the country.

Plus, the administration hates foreigners and loves technology. Seems consistent, at least.

There’s at least two possible outcomes when someone(s) receives aid:

1. They use it as a stepping stone towards becoming independent, and it’s temporary
2. They feel entitled to it and become habituated towards receiving aid and it cements their dependence

Same problem with food stamps, etc. some people use it as a hand-out, some people use it as a hand-up. You can’t really help one group without helping the other, unfortunately.

Get yourself some cheap calipers, radius measure, etc from Amazon. You don’t need to spend a million dollars for some basic instruments. This will help you measure things you find in the real world.

For CAD, if you want a really easy on-ramp, try using “Tinkercad”. They have a free option for users and there are lots of people who have made really usable replacement parts for things. If you end up really liking it, there are more powerful and complex CAD programs out there, but this will get you a friendly start without spending a lot of money.

If you have problems on the printer end, you can export your Tinkercad projects and send them to “Shapeways” (or other vendors) who will take your CAD file and return a 3D print in the mail. You can also buy your own 3D printer if you wish.

That should get you started, and if you pull all 3 of these threads, you will be able to start reproducing things around your house. Have fun!

I don’t know why people are so against trying to do something. I’d like to think if it was scientifically proven that people had 0% to do with changing climate that we STILL should try to do something. It always made no sense to me as just to dismiss it as some kind of “natural change” in the Earth that we shouldn’t oppose.

One of my favorite copes in the USA is that all this weather data is faked by Democrats / leftists, so no need to worry about it.

Another popular take is: “China is really filthy, so why should we try to be clean?”

Basically selfish people being selfish. I’d like to leave the world better than I found it, not worse.

Stories like this is very much why I severely limit the amount of time I spend on Windows. Having been with Windows nearly since the beginning of its history, it’s insane to see the amount of reduction of user control that’s gone into it.

One of the most egregious things is the lack of control around updates. Often I’ll finish a session with my laptop and go to store it in the bag. Windows will cheerfully inform me that there is a forced update and then I end up having to wait for my machine to finish its shit while I sit around tapping my toes.

Meanwhile, in Linux-land, I have as much control over updates as I wish. I almost breathe a sigh of relief when I reach my Linux desktop, because it’s still a place that feels like MINE. I feel like I’m some kind of sharecropper or temporary house guest when on Windows 11. It doesn’t feel like “my” environment. It feels like it’s Microsoft’s computer and they just let me use it occasionally.

For myself, I was lucky(?) enough to have wasted my best years playing with Linux and running Linux boxes is no problem now. For the average Joe that needs to mess with computers, I feel bad for them. Windows 11 feels like shit, MacOS sure isn’t great either, and that’s pretty much the only choice.

No wonder I’m seeing less and less households with PCs and laptops. I think the average person in 2025 has just given up on computers and makes do with their phone or tablet.

Thank fucking god for Linux, because if I was forced to use Windows 11 full time, I think I’d snap and go live in the middle of the forest or something. It’s actively annoying to even look at at this point, and I only see things getting worse. For example, the troubles with Windows “Recall” have barely even started.

I loathe to see what Microsoft has in store for us next, and I would guarantee it’s not user friendly.

Not to be outdone, Trump had the following announcement from the White House:

MAGA believes so many contrary things at the same time, this will just join the list of them. They will figure out a way to blame the Democrats, I’m sure. Some people will slurp it right up.

I’ve known this for a long time but I continue to do my best to operate honorably. I may never be rich or powerful, but I sleep very well at night.

Except that current pope has been working with that org for a number of years and is a known quantity vs. some outside guy you’re bringing in from the cold. A nice try at an analogy, but it doesn’t quite stack up.

My favorite one that I’ve heard is: “ban it”. This has a lot of problems… let’s say despite the billions of dollars of lobbyists already telling Congress what a great thing AI is every day, that you manage to make AI, or however you define the latest scary tech, punishable by death in the USA.

Then what happens? There are already AI companies in other countries busily working away. Even the folks that are very against AI would at least recognize some limited use cases. Over time the USA gets left behind in whatever the end results of the appearance of AI on the economy.

If you want to see a parallel to this, check out Japan’s reaction when the rest of the world came knocking on their doorstep in the 1600s. All that scary technology, banned. What did it get them? Stalled out development for quite a while, and the rest of the world didn’t sit still either. A temporary reprieve.

The more aggressive of you will say, this is no problem, let’s push for a worldwide ban. Good luck with that. For almost any issue on Earth, I’m not sure we have total alignment. The companies displaced from the USA would end up in some other country and be even more determined not to get shut down.

AI is here. It’s like electricity. You can not wire your house but that just leads to you living in a cabin in the woods while your neighbors have running water, heat, air conditioning and so on.

The question shouldn’t be, how do we get rid of it? How do we live without it? It should be, how can we co-exist with it? What’s the right balance? The genie isn’t going back in the bottle, no matter how hard you wish.
