Same with glass. If it’s at least a few mm thick, it’s gonna look the same until it turns red. I’ve (temporarily) lost a couple finger prints not being careful.
If it’s glowing it’s extra hot. If it’s burning it’s very hot.
If it’s looking a bit gooey it’s super hot.
