I don’t want to come off as preachy, and I love the waves of new users. I’m just concerned about the stability of the Lemmy userbase if the highest commented posts stay “I’m leaving reddit” and “things reddit did” type threads.

This is something I also need to work on aha, but it’s really important to be active in topics and activities you’re interested in outside being a (potentially former) redditor.

Happy lemming, friends!

I think most people would agree with the sentiment, but it’s probably a side effect of people being a bit lost.

If you can’t find the community or discussion where you could contribute more niche information, having the general reddit exodus topic at least lets you participate.

And I think that is the common thread of optimism. Even with the confusion and the jank, it still feels good to be somewhere welcoming and new.

Yep, it’s definitely gonna take some time to adjust.

I’ve setup my own community as I couldn’t find one that existed for it already, but no idea how best to actually spread the word about it.

But enjoying finding out how it all works and discovering more communities

There’s a community to promote your new communities in, it’s called New Communities (funnily enough) on lemmy.world. I’m really new to this but I’ll try to link it

I think there is a good chance at the moment that people will find you. Without much map of where to go I have been searching for community names that include my interests, and I suspect other people are doing the same given the community I started has been getting subscribers and I haven’t told anyone about it!

Everyone is grieving together and trauma bonding over the loss of a loved one lol 😞

Time heals all wounds. I think after this Reddit blackout and the 3rd party apps turn off we will get a massive influx of users. After a month or so of the big spike we might see other topics and communitys take off.

I’m still learning how to do things right now. I’m trying to find a news feed (?) thread (?) community (?) and learning how to post. But I’m looking forward to contributing as soon as I can get my bearings. I totally agree with you though, good to see posts from other refugees but craving the content

Indeed. Considering it takes some time to find communities and topics (especially more obscure/non-centralized ones and stuff on federated instances), it’s gonna take a while for people to settle. But with time people are probably gonna find stuff they like and stay because of them

the admins should put a link at the top to a search or version of the feed or something that filters out all posts with “reddit” in the title or body or linked article to show what the site is like when it isn’t consumed with gossip and drama.
