Europe loves to shit on US. Find another country or continent that Europe contrasts themselves from more than US. Popular contrasts:
I can’t go a day on Lemmy without seeing at least one of the above. Yet, you don’t see daily comments on how Europe is better than Brazil, India, Japan, Australia, Canada, Egypt, South Africa, Mexico, etc. Can you imagine if they did that?
News: Man Freezes to Death in Rural Canada
News: 5 People Gunned Down and Robbed in Sao Paulo Favela
News: Mumbai Police Assault Orphaned Girl
News: Almost 90% of Egyptians Have Electric Power
News: Shoot Out between Rival Cartels Kills 13 Adults, 3 Children
If 9/11 happened tomorrow, you’d see comments like, “What a tragedy. I’m happy I feel safe in Europe because we aren’t building bases in the Middle East. The worst thing I have to worry about is if people in Dubai think I’m American when I’m on vacation there.”
We get it. You guys are superior. The US has considerable social problems despite its GDP. You’d think you would be a little more grateful about the US helping yall build those fantastic social programs after you guys fucked yourselves up in WWII. Or US subsidizing your military defense, from aircraft carriers, troops, foreign bases, military equipment production, space, to being a nuclear sponge. Y’all be shitting your pants in the Summer and the freezing your asses of in the Winter with Putin if it wasn’t for us.

Best October surprise ever.
lmaooooo 🤣🤣
Using heavier weights for my workouts. It makes me feel great and so powerful to help my body fight stored trauma.
Yooooo!!! Me too!! I make sure to piss myself off real good before going to the gym. I’ll be pacing like a madman before I get in the car. I know I’m ready when I don’t even want to go outside because even sunlight is offensive. One time, I pushed it too hard and had to ground myself in the car at the gym parking lot for 15 mins. Between sets, I’m pacing and stimming with my earbuds in. Prolly look like I think I’m in a rap video.
I catch people side-eyeing me often. But, I could tell who gets it because I catch them doing similar and are friendly to me when we’re near each other.
I don’t know if this will work for the trauma eventually or just a mandatory habit now, but it’s made adjusting my weighted blanket a lot easier.
Keep it up!
Congrats!! I loved the little bit I learned. It’s a lot more intertwined with others subjects than I had thought, like physics and math. Feel free to share if you learned anything interesting 🙂
I gotchu, boo 😉👌
Dear @HilaryRClinton@clinton.dynasty,
Anyone that can be funded endlessly by a corporate and capitalist elite can become president.
If billionaires and corporate leaders decided tomorrow that you should be president, they could dump millions of dollars and a few years worth of hired professional help and they’d make you president.
It’s not the will of an individual person or a personality that makes a president … it’s whichever group of wealthy backers who decide to fund the campaign … after that it is j just a matter of how much money they are willing to spend to make it happen.
I think the point of the post is merely to point out that in four decades, at least one of three families has been in each election. Statistically, if candidates were freely chosen at random from the top 0.01% of Americans, that would be insanely improbable. It’s pointing out that presidential elections aren’t the American people picking the best person in the country for the job. There are influential factors other than who-would-be-best at face value. In other words, the people aren’t given a list of American citizens with their characteristics and asked to chose the one they would prefer. The people are told to pick one from a very select few that have already been approved. Whether those candidates have climbed a ladder or been given a silver spoon is irrelevant to that point. The matter is that elections aren’t entirely free in spirit.
It also serves as an argument against social mobility and merit in the USA. Dynasties are government systems in which the ultimate power stays within a family. We’re told that it’s because of whatever bs reason with the family being divine or superior, but the reality is that when the ultimate power rests within the same family, the people that benefit from that also stay in power. It’s a system that maintains those on top on top. Having presidential dynasties shows that social mobility in the USA isn’t as fluid as commonly thought.
Can you explain your logic?
Interesting! What are some other examples of common American English terms inconspicuously being used to dehumanize people?
Some classical symphonic music greatest pieces album that’s at least 2 CDs worth, but hopefully more. Being on a desert island, I’m sure I will go through all sorts of moods and emotions, so I’ll need something for everything.
I’m here! I’ve done acid and shrooms several times. I can talk about my experiences, but I have no idea if others experience it similarly.
Here’s a trip simulator that I find is pretty close to the visual experience: https://youtu.be/3BxiYkCPZwI?si=dVD6sPpk7KdhFx3e
When working on long-term goals:
For example, let’s say the goal is to paint a house:
I can say I want it painted in 2 months, so I set it for the date of 9/17/24.
I figure I can paint a room every other day, so since the house has 5 rooms total, I think I can start painting 10 days before on 9/07/24. However, I need to consider that finding and purchasing paint and equipment will take time too. I think about it and consider that paint shopping can take me 2 days since I want to try out several stores, so the newer date is 9/05/24.
Now, I add some room for minor setbacks between each task. Rather than assuming I will paint every other day, I add two days in between. That means starting on 8/30/24. This allows me to take my time with rooms, skip a day if I feel tired, or adjust if I the rooms take longer to paint than I had anticipated for whatever reason. I also increase the time allotted for acquiring materials because so many things can happen: traffic, tired, unhappy with selection, need time to test samples and ask people, etc. Rather than only include 2 days for this, I include a whole week so I can see the paint samples on the walls and see which ones feel the best. We are not starting on 8/23/24.
Lastly, maybe something major could happen, such as getting sick, the store runs out of paint stock, my car breaks down, or I change my mind on one of the paint colors after seeing it up on the wall. I might even realize that I completely overlooked tasks, such as rearranging furniture, painting over errors/accidents, and clean up. I would then add a cushion of 2 weeks to the schedule to allow for that should it happen. So the actual start date is 8/9/24. This is much sooner than if we had gone with the original start date of 9/07/24, almost an entire month!
With this style of planning, I can take my sweet time, enjoy the process, and not get stressed out if something unexpected comes up. If I finish early, then I have extra time to work on details or enjoy the rest.
And slut has never had a positive meaning.
Am I the only one here that likes sl… promiscuous women??
You’re welcome, and good luck 😊
“Perfectionism is shame leaving the body.” - The Daily Llama
But seriously, I think the majority of perfectionism is rooted in childhood shame. That comes from family that was overly critical, so we attempted to address it by being perfect. Maybe try messing things up in a safe manner on purpose to behaviorally teach yourself that it’s okay to make mistakes.
That’s a tough one. Sorry for whatever strated you down that path It can be mentally exhausting and isolating. I hope you figure a way out of it.
My friend has a history of overeating and was about 70 lbs heavier than she is now. She started a keto diet that helped her get to her current weight/size, and now employs a modified diet where she goes keto regularly rather than stay on a strict diet all the time. It seems to work well for her since she can regularly eat whatever she wants between breaks. If you’re interested, I could ask her for online resources. Let me know 🙂👍
