Went to see Die Hard in the theatre last weekend. I think I had forgotten what a good film actually is. Die Hard largely tells it’s story through acting and camera work, instead of long exposition dumps and voiceover. It was a joy to watch. It’s no wonder I’ve almost stopped seeing new films in the theatre, there all made by morons catering to morons.
This is all mainstream entertainment, at this point.
Movies/shows are written by people with a 4th grade reading level for people with a 2nd grade reading level. Ditto books. Music is devoid of anything resembling soul. Video games are unfinished slop that are forgotten in 2 weeks.

I feel this way about Marvel movies awfully. The CGI is impressive but the cinematography is so frequently dreadful.
All the action and effects yet boringly framed.
Maybe it’s to do with the over-use of green screen and reliance on “figuring it out in post”. I dunno. I miss old school cinematographers.
It is. Rather than shoot it well and then tweak it in post, they shoot it to give themselves the greatest number of options in post. It’s a scourge.
I first noticed this with the black widow movie. Every big action scene was framed like a video game cut scene.
There’s definitely good new stories still being told, but most of big cinema has been slop for a while, well before AI.

And it all requires a fucking subscription now.
